Few people attempt to sing the song “My Heart Will Go On,” because it is so difficult to sing, not to mention its close association with its singer, Celine Dion. But that didn’t stop 9-year old Celine Tam (yes, she is named for the Canadian songstress!) from performing it on TV. Tam was auditioning for America’s Got Talent, NBC’s summer talent show that features talented performers of all ages.
Tam told the judges, including Heidi Klum, Mel B and Simon Cowell, that she was about to sing “My Heart Will Go On,” prompting Cowell to sigh and roll his eyes dramatically. Cowell is not necessarily a fan of Dion, but he also doubts that there are many who could really perform the vocal histrionics necessary to do the song justice.
But Cowell’s mind was changed in the instant that Tam started to sing. Her voice is a carbon copy of her namesake’s – and the crowd immediately responds. As the video shows, her rendition is so accurate, if you close your eyes, you will think Celine herself is singing it. When she finished the song, even Cowell showered her with praise.
Tam not only made the show, she got the chance to knock everyone’s socks off with a killer version of Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire.” Tam later explained that she was named after the Montreal native, as was her younger sister, who is named Dion!
